Ponmudi

Ponmudi is a hill station in Thiruvananthapuram. It is situated over 1000 m above sea level. It’s just 61 km away from Trivandrum. This hill station is blessed with natural beauty and best climate. Weather remains pleasant throughout the year. We have to cover 22 hairpin curves to reach ponmudi. This 22 hairpin and the narrow winding road is a thrilling experience for a ride. There are many tea estates surrounded here. Trekking is possible here.

I visited this place number of time. Below pictures are taken in different times when I visited this place.

Peppara Dam

Peppara dam is located around 55 km from Trivnadrum city and is constructed over Karamana river. KSEB operates a 3MW mini hydroelectric power station located here. Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary consists of the Peppara dam and its surrounding areas.

There is a check post at the Peppara dam entrance and we had park our vehicles outside the entrance. The dam is 100 m walk from entrance. There is no entry fee there. We walked over the dam. Other side of the dam is a forest part of wildlife sanctuary extending to Neyyar wildlife sanctuary.

Meenmutty Waterfall

Meenmutty waterfall is about 50 km away from Thiruvananthapuram, on the way to Ponmudi. It’s a best place for picnickers. To reach the waterfall you have to trek nearly 3 kms through the forest away from road, not a heavy trekking. You can see the Kallar golden valley when you walk to the waterfall. If you like, you can take a dip in the crystal clear water.  Be aware of leeches during raining season.
